Is There Middle Ground?

As a recovering sex addict and substance abuser with quite the troubled past, I myself had misconceptions about Christianity before God decided I was done dabbling in self-serving lies. Peacefully serving God in truth is misunderstood by many in the public square these days, but that won’t put a damper on my joy or stop me from loving others.

“The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe” (Proverbs 29:25)

And Jesus said “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.” (John 15:18)

This begs the question, how should I be perceived for sharing the victories over my issues achieved through my faith? And how would we label a heterosexual woman when she leaves her career as a porn star after coming to Christ, gets married, and lovingly speaks out against her former lifestyle as part of her testimony?

And are authors like Becket Cook (video below) and Rachel Gilson, who left the homesexual lifestyle in favor for a life of Christian faith and celibacy considered hateful if they now publicly preach the gospel and lovingly speak out against their former homosexual lifestyle?

And what about the people in this short video? Do they get a pass? Their messages are powerful.

Former LGBTQers Testify: If You No Longer Want to Be Gay or Transgender, You Don’t Have to Be (only16 minutes)

There are bad people out there, both Christian and non-Christian, who choose hateful rhetoric and bullying as a means to communicate. I strongly stand against them and so do the hundreds of Christians I know, whether you like us or not.

But we also stand against the deception, false teaching, and twisting of scripture that is leading many astray.

Do Not Be Confused, Do Not Be Misled. They Put A “Christian Transgender” On MSNBC?!

The Bible teaches that God created two genders (male and female) in His image with specific roles and purposes. Sex was created for marriage between a man and woman, and marriage was designed by God for humanity. As first described in Genesis and later affirmed by Jesus, marriage is a God-ordained, covenant relationship between a man and a woman. This lifelong, sexually exclusive relationship brings children into the world and thus sustains the stewardship of the earth.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it. (Genesis 1:27–28 ESV)

Disclaimer: I realize there are intersex people out there and God loves them immensely. We live in a fallen world with many natural anomolies, but this doesn’t give us a license to willfully alter God’s design.

Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous. (Hebrews 13:4)

I know from personal experience and interaction with numerous permiscuous heterosexual and homosexual friends and family members, that many of the mental health and substance abuse issues stem from the inner battle (cognitive dissonance) associated with living a life contrary to God’s design. The culture blames bullying and rejection for all of the ills the LGBTQIA community suffers, but this simply isn’t fair or accurate.

Homosexuality & The Bible – The Becket Cook Show

Check out Becket on YouTube, and read his bio and the various video comments. Becket lived a gay lifestyle for many years, and later turned away from it after turning his life over to the Lord. Quite a personable and kind man.

Sex is natural for human beings, but not necessary. A person can live a full, blessed, rich, useful, meaningful, God-glorifying life without ever having sex with anyone.

Like Becket, I have chosen celibacy and singleness after living as a porn addict and in full heterosexual sexual sin with many partners for over two decades. Sure it gets lonely at times, but that pales in comparison to the conviction and guilt that comes with living outside of Gods’ will. I am much more fulfilled and content now, but there’s no way you could’ve convinced me of that before I had my ‘come to Jesus’ moment and the Holy Spirit took over.

No matter how unbelievable or hopeless it seems, God can change anyone. Anyone can truly be born again and enjoy a renewed mind and the peace of God in his or her life.
